Wow it is hard to believe that is has been well over a month since I last wrote something. As I stated in the previous installment, sometimes I just don't have anything to write about. I still don't really but I figured it might not be a bad idea to come up with something.
Baseball season is at the halfway point which means the ValleyCats season is underway. It is a real exciting time here at CapitalRegionSports.com becuase we have moved out of the "Dead Season" and have moved into the "Busy Season".
The Albany Metro Mallers have played their two pre-season games and won them with ease and now are awaiting the Troy fighting Irish to start the season.
Not much seems to be brewing on the Fighting Irish side of things but I am sure they are gearing up for their second season in the league.
I am assuming both the Mallers and the Fighting Irish are excited to face each other in the First Annual CapitalRegionSports.com Cup. It hasn't been made official yet but as soon as it is you will find out. The game is scheduled to take place on July 12th at Bleecker Stadium in Albany. Albany Mayor Jennings is scheduled to be in attendance and will possibly be doing the coin toss. We are very excited to be a part of this game and hope that it is something that continues for many more years to come.
My partner in crime Ed Rickert will be supplying all of our viewers with his picks for the meet at Saratoga which is coming up quicker then we all think. This will be Ed's third year doing the picks for the website. He has enjoyed moderate success and will be ready to build from it.
So moving away from what we do here on a close to regualr basis, The BBA playoffs were extremely enjoyable to watch. I am not sure if it was because the Celtics won it all or if the game is changing, but I enjoyed every minute of it. I even went as far as DVR'ing the NBA Draft. I can't believe I did that, but I sat and watched just about all of it before needing to go to sleep. I am looking forward to watching a little more NBA next year. I just hope the playoffs didn't give me false hope.
July 1st marks the first say NHL teams can go after free agents as that period begins. It is always exciting to see where players end up and if the team you root for does anything to make themselves better. In my case as a Buffalo Sabres fan, we usually let out best talent go becuase they can't afford to sign them and make minimal moves in hopes that the young players in the system can step in and do the job of all-stars. Last year was a disaster in Buffalo losing out co-captains. Well it doesn't look like they will lose any players but the chances of them signing a Marian Hossa type player is unrealistic.
Last but not least the Major League Baseball trade deadline is a little more then a month away. It is great to finally see the Tampa Bay Rays as buyers this time of year. There is a possiblility of the Rays getting Cy Young winner C.C. Sabathia along with Ken Griffey Jr. and possibly Jason Bay. It is hard to believe but very good to see. The regular buyers remain the same but It will be interesting to see what mega deals get done if any.
Well I suppose this has gone on long enough so I will end it here. Thanks for reading.
