The Tri-City ValleyCats litteraly lost power Friday night against the visiting Oneonta Tigers in New-York Penn League Action. A 16-minute delay while trying to get the power back on and Oneonta’s pitching contributed to the ValleyCats 6-0 loss.
Oneonta’s Trevor Feeney (2-3) had a no-no going into the eighth inning until the ‘Cats Jack Shuck hit a ground ball through the infield for Tri-City’s first and only hit of the evening. “I made a mistake and left the ball over the plate”, Feeney said “He (Shuck) usually hits the ball to left and I didn’t locate that pitch” he added. Friday nights game was the longest outing by Feeney in his brief professional career.
As for the ‘Cats, they didn’t get a good outing from their starter Antonio Noguera (1-5). Noguera who has struggled in most of his outings this season surrendered all of the Tigers runs and left the game after pitching three innings. It was up to the ValleyCats bullpen to stop the bleeding. Relievers Eduin Ciriaco and Kyle Godfrey were called upon to not let the game get anymore out of hand. They responded by pitching a combined six innings not giving up a hit and striking out six Tigers.
Noguera’s status as a starting pitcher remains up in the air. “In all honesty those decisions come from Houston, Texas” ‘Cats manager Pete Rancont said “They will look at all of the information regarding players and make their decisions” he added.
The ValleyCats are back in action tonight to face these same Tigers tonight at 7pm at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. It will be interesting to see how the team responds after last nights defeat.
