Albany, N.Y. - After last weeks 23 point allowance against the Troy Fighting Irish the Maller defense wanted to make a statement. They did just that as the Mallers dominated the Utica Yard Dogs 40-0.
The Mallers forced 4 turnovers and a safety as the Yard Dogs struggled just to make it in to Maller territory. Terry “Father Time” Cumberbatch recovered a first quarter fumble and Jamie Longmire & Shane Sportman each had an interception of Dogs QB Bill Peterson.
Quarterback Scott Lawson threw for another 4 touchdowns. He connected with Culture Branch twice in the first quarter from 16 and 18 yards and again with Noble Champen from 25 yards out as the Mallers streaked to a 28 point first quarter outburst.
Lawson found Macio Clinton from 21 yards away in the second quarter and running back Eddie Tranholm III powered in from 3 yards away to cap off the first half scoring at 34-0.
The Second half highlights were few and far between. The third quarter highlight was Sportsman’s interception and the fourth quarter featured a 3 yard touchdown run by C.J. Tarver.
It wasn’t all good for the yellow and blue. Special teams had 2 extra points blocked, a missed extra point and too many men on the field for another. Those four points could be the difference between a win and a loss somewhere down the road.
The Mallers travel south to Kingston next week as they take on the Hudson Valley Highlanders of the North American Football League at Deitz Stadium.
