TROY, N.Y. - The Staten Island Yankees defeated the Tri-City ValleyCats in a game shortened by rain at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Sunday night. Despite a three-run homerun from designated hitter Jon Gaston, the ValleyCats lost by a score of 4-3.

After rain storms blew into "The Joe" following the seventh inning, play was suspended for two hours before the game was called. However, the rain held off long enough for ValleyCats starter Robert Bono to make his best start of the season. Bono went six strong innings, giving up just one earned run and four hits. Offensively, the ValleyCats got on the board early when Jon Gaston hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning off Casey Erickson. The lead could not be held, though, and the Yankees struck back with one run in the firth and sixth innings and two runs in the seventh.

Monday, the ValleyCats will conclude their series with Staten Island Yankees at 7 p.m. A Price Chopper fireworks display will follow the game. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium Box Office, by calling (518) 629-CATS, or by logging on to www.tcvalleycats.com.
