TROY, N.Y.—In a 12-7 slugfest, the Tri-City ValleyCats defeated the Vermont Lake Monsters at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Saturday night. After being promoted from the Greeneville Astros this week, seventeen-year-old Jordan Lyles made his first start for the ‘Cats, going 1.2 innings surrendering two hits and three runs.

Second baseman Mike Diaz got the ValleyCats off to a hot start with a leadoff home run to right field off Vermont starter Randy Matias.  Tri-City tacked on two more runs in the inning when a single from left fielder Marques Williams scored David Flores and Jon Gaston. In the fourth inning, first baseman Phil Disher added to the scoring barrage with a single to centerfield that plated Mike Diaz and Jeff Hulett. In the same frame, the ‘Cats scored again when Danny Meier crossed the plate after a wild pitch from the Lake Monsters’ Steven Stewart.

The ValleyCats continued to flex their offensive muscles in the seventh when Phil Disher hit a home run to left-center field. It was Disher’s twelfth home run of the season which is the second most of any player in ValleyCats single season history.

The ValleyCats will conclude their series with the Vermont Lake Monsters Sunday. A fireworks show presented by Price Chopper will follow the game. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium Box Office, by calling (518) 629-CATS, or by logging on to www.tcvalleycats.com.
