The Tri-City ValleyCats were the 2-1 victors in a pitching duel against the Batavia Muckdogs at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Thursday night.  ‘Cats starter Antonio Noguera led the staff, pitching six innings while allowing just five hits and one run.

Down 1-0 going into the bottom of the fourth inning, the ValleyCats took a 2-1 lead when third baseman Danny Meier ripped a triple to center field to score Jason Castro and David Flores.  The score held as neither team scored in the remaining five innings.

On the mound, ‘Cats pitchers Chris Hicks and Kirkland Rivers combined to throw three innings in relief of Noguera, without allowing a hit or a run.  The appearance was Hicks’ first professional game after signing with the Astros last week.

The ValleyCats hit the road for three games against the Brooklyn Cyclones in Brooklyn.  The series is the last before the New York-Penn League All-Star Game being held on Tuesday, August 19.  Four ‘Cats were selected to participate in the All-Star Game festivities – Phil Disher, J.B. Shuck, David Flores and Philip Rummel.  For more information on the New York-Penn League All-Star Game, please call (518) 629-CATS to speak to a ValleyCats representative
