
DAGOSTINO ONE ASSIST SHY OF "DOUBLE-DOUBLE" AT CBI
WADSWORTH, OH – Senior Steve Dagostino registered 10 points and nine assists to help FirstMerit Bank pull off a 95-80 victory over Galaxy in its opening game of the Collegiate Basketball Invitational (CBI) in Ohio this afternoon.
Dagostino, who is one of 64 players who have been invited to participate in this event from NCAA Division II and Division III and NAIA Division I and Division II institutions, went 3-for-6 from the floor and 2-for-4 from beyond the arc as six different players reached double-figures in scoring. FirstMerit outscored Galaxy 48-34 throughout the final period after trailing 47-46 going into the locker room.
Dagostino was the top scorer for a 2007-08 Saint Rose squad that finished 23-8 and had five players who averaged double-figures.
The FirstMerit Bank team is scheduled to return to action tomorrow at 10:00 am with a guaranteed two games slated for Friday. With a win, the club would play in the championship game at 8:00 pm while a loss would result in a 6:00 pm start. The CBI will conclude with an All-Star game Saturday at 8:00 pm in front of a live, ESPNU audience as 20 players will be selected to play in the game.
